Writers need ideas. It’s great to go on long walks and eavesdrop on people in conversation. The world around us is a constant source of inspiration. But sometimes the obvious loses its luster. Walks become merely a manner of exercise. Conversation feels like a smattering of inane thoughts. And then what?
That’s why books are so important. If your friend is writing about her local town, transport her to Ireland or Spain. Take a virtual stroll through an old museum in Russia. Travel by caravan through the desert. Hop a train across America. Sail across the Pacific Ocean. No place is impossible when you read.
