All these wonderful feelings are here for a reason. This is the time to give to others. Share your heart in writing.
Put some fun in your writing. Create a short story for your kids about a reindeer with a bad sense of direction that can’t find his way home even when the path is lighted. Throw in a wicked elf, some magic, and a fast-approaching midnight, and show how good triumphs over evil. Or jot down a love poem for your sweetheart. Be different and describe what you like about him or her with your favorite flavors – chocolate, cinnamon, peppermint, nutmeg. Whatever suits your fancy. Or send out traditional cards to friends and family. Don’t burden yourself with the year in review. Just a few well-chosen words will do. Love, cherish, honor, adore. That’s enough to let them know they’re in your heart.
And while you’re at it, don’t forget yourself. You’ve worked hard this year. Give yourself a gift of editing or coaching to help you with your book. Or show your appreciation to your writing friends.
Words are magic. Reach into the past and bring out those happy moments, the sparkle, the fun, the excitement of a new snow, the thrill of sledding. Joy isn’t only for kids. Take your words and sweep them up like stardust. Sprinkle it all around wherever you go. Watch people smile. See that glimmer in their eyes. Note how good it makes you feel.
Bringing peace and joy.
Hearts are open, arms spread wide
To share goodwill,
To drink their fill,
To give the gift of love.
That's what Christmas does.
