The Magic of Writing
Anagrams, cryptograms, crossword puzzles, word searches. If it had to do with words and letters, I could spend hours. In bliss.
I loved words as a kid and reading was my favorite hobby. The longer the book, the better, and I easily went from one book to the next. With all that reading of different plots and characters, the transition to writing should have been simple.
But it wasn’t. My first novel was totally inspired—I only wrote when my mind overflowed with story. And it was a magnificent story. The best ever written. Or so I thought. It took years for me to learn that my writing wasn’t perfect and I couldn’t plot worth a darn. My storylines were weak, my characters pathetic, and there was nothing to intrigue the reader.
Something had to change.
I discovered the magic of writing classes and dedicated teachers. And I learned the secret of good writing—how to use conflict to ramp up the
story and strengthen the character’s emotions. I wasn’t an overnight success. Indeed, I wandered in the darkness waiting for the proverbial light bulb to go off. But once it did, it was amazing. My writing had passion. It had soul. My readers loved it. And best of all, I understood how to translate my success into helping others achieve theirs.
We communicate from our hearts with our words. Words that have power. Words that have passion. That passion is the subject of my upcoming novel The Sacred Flame, set in ancient Rome in 216 BC, about a Vestal Virgin who must choose between religious duty and the desires of her soul.
Almost 20 years of experience working with authors spark my passion for helping them achieve their own unique message. I have the privilege of collaborating with award-winning authors like Fran Stewart and Jana Oliver. Or playing with my word muse for writing on my blog here, on Eve, and in my critique group that I've led for 10 years.
I look forward to sharing my love for words and my experience with writing. I can't wait to show you how to make your writing shine!

Transformation
The butterfly is a symbol of change. From egg to larvae to pupa and finally the beautiful creature we know and love, the butterfly embraces transformation without question. The unwavering acceptance of her metamorphosis is symbolic of faith.
Do you embrace your situations with passion and excitement, or do you fight them and wail against the terrible tragedy of your life? The earth rotates, the tides ebb and flow. Seasons change. Worry, anger, despair are contrary to nature. Life that is in harmony with these changing rhythms is more at peace, more content.
But sometimes change is difficult. Terrifying. People resist change because habits are comfortable. You may not like what you do but you know how to do it. I was there, both as a writer and in my personal life. I wrote six novels, convinced they were masterpieces, before I admitted I had a problem with plot. And resistance? If I can’t do it perfectly the first time, I don’t want to do it.
The journey of the soul is ever-changing. Each turn is an opportunity to learn anew. Each path you choose allows you to express yourself in different ways. To learn. To grow. To become. As the butterfly represents birth (caterpillar), death (chrysalis or cocoon), and finally resurrection (the final butterfly), you, too, can discard those old habits and beliefs that no longer serve you. You can change your personality or way of thinking. Writing classes and coaching and the desire to help others allowed me to tackle my fears and improve my writing. I’ve learned to worry less, relax more, and let go of the need for perfection.
Are you resistant? Do you battle against your fear of greatness? No matter how bored you get or tired of the sameness of your life, it’s time to make a change. Heal your fears. Take those steps. Transform yourself into the amazing person you can be.
I invite you to be the change in your life. Embrace it, be at peace with it, revel in it. Share yourself with the world. Shine with brilliance.
